Alternative for ride 4.
After 17, 8 km on the Fv 713, take the exit to Straum. This road has little traffic and leads through an inland landscape, where you have good chances of meeting red or roe deer. Two large lakes along the route, Liavatnet and Skogåsvatnet, are good for fishing. (Remember to get your fishing license at the Coastal Museum in Fillan or at www.inatur.no.) Follow the signs to Asmundvåg and, next, to Melandsjø. In Melandsjø, you can visit Hopsjøbrygga. Hopsjø Coast and Cultural Center has a maritime environment with a long history. In the summer you can visit an old-time general store, a whaling exhibition and have a meal at the restaurant Landstrykeren. We recommend a hike up to Brannhaugen along the path from Hopsjøen. You will enjoy the magnificent view of the Dolmsund channel from the top of Brannhaugen. Another interesting site in Melandsjø is the characteristic Hitra church that became the principal parish church on Hitra after the Dolm church had burned in 1920.
After about 2,5 km past Melandsjø, you will arrive at Dolmsundet Hotel where you can spend the night in a flat or a hotel room and enjoy an excellent meal.
Following the signs to Fillan. Here, you will enter the Fv 714, which has more traffic. On the way to Fillan, you will pass the Dalpro company, which farms red deer and Old Norse sheep and sells farm food. Their products from sheep and deer have won multiple prestigious awards.
