You can get to Hitra by boat – the Coast Express (Kystekspressen) from Trondheim to Kristiansund, or by county road 714 from Orkanger through the Hitra tunnel. This is one of the deepest underwater tunnels in the world. It runs 265 meters under the Trondheimsleia strait.
You arrive at Hitra either by car via the Hitra tunnel or by an express boat to the terminal at Sanstad/Jøstnøya, close to Hitra coastal harbor and Hitra industrial park. We recommend dropping by the boat terminal even if you arrive by car. You can visit an exhibition about modern aquaculture there, get information about Hitra, visit the Sjøsprøyt cafe and find out about the fishing tour operator Hitra Turistservice.
