1. THE OLD ROAD FILLAN-AKSET
The old road over Hitra goes from Fillan to Akset and is 8 km long. There is no car traffic here, and the trip is thus well suited for cycling trips with children.
6. BETWEEN THE BRIDGES
Between new Dolmsundet Bridge and old Vettastraumen bridge.
The last 4 bike rides start at Sandstad, by the terminal for the express boat from Trondheim and Kristiansund.
There are no organized bike rides on Hitra. However, if you have your own bike and visit the island on two wheels you might have a wonderful experience. Bicycle tourism in not big in the area, so it’s a good idea to bring your own repair kit . For other things there is a well-equipped sports shop in Fillan.
There is, unfortunately, a lot of heavy truck traffic on the roads of Hitra and Frøya. The FV 714 is very busy due to the export of farmed salmon. But some areas with less traffic are safe for cyclists of all ages.
A map of Hitra that will be useful on a bike trip can be purchased at the tourist information at the Coastal Museum in Fillan and at the express boat terminal at Sandstad.
