1. DOLM CHURCH AND RECTORY GARDEN

2. HOPSJØ KYST OG KULTURSENTER
The Parelius family made Hopsjø one of the Trøndelag coast’s largest trading places in the 17th and 19th centuries.

3. MARGRETHE’S MINDE
In honor of his wife, in 1790 Nils Parelius built Margrethe’s Minde. This was the Parelius family’s country house, and is an important historical site.

4. STRØMSVEIEN OVER
The old post road and the main road over Hitra from Strøm to Hopsjø. The trip is approx. 5.5 km one way from Strøm to Margrethe’s Minde.

5. GAMMELVEIEN/THE OLD ROAD 
This is one of the longest preserved of the old county roads and was used until 1962, when the new FV 714 over Hitra was completed.

6. BUSSEKAILLSTUA 
By the Kjerkveien (church road) between Fjellvær and Nordbotn you will find Bussekaillstua (or Bussekaill cave).
It is not easy to find for someone who has never been there.

A marked cultural trail that goes up from Hopsjø Kyst and Kultursenter.

9. TITRAN
At Titran chapel on Frøya, there is a memorial of the Titran accident in 1899, when 140 fishermen from all over Central Norway died.

Hitra’s history begins with the first foreigners who arrived here across the ice from different parts of Europe over 10 000 years ago. There are traces of people’s settlements on Hitra originating in the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Since then, the island has been continuously inhabited. Have a look at some suggestions of interesting historical venues above.
